Cueva de los Verdes (Green Cave)

Cuevas de los Verdes

Cueva de los Verdes in Lanzarote is one of the three jewels of the crown in Lanzarote together with Jameos del Agua and the Natural Park of Timanfaya with its Route of the Volcanoes.  Its origin is about 5000 thousand years ago, and its volcanic tube measures about 7 kilometers in total, being considered the longest lava tunnel in the world. The Cuevas de los Verdes tube is composed of a network of galleries interconnected between them and conditioned for your visit, which can be done in approximately 50 minutes.

Recently, a team from UNED, after several attempts, managed to reach the end of the volcanic tube to which Jameos del Agua and Cueva de los Verdes belong, at a depth of 64 metres and with an entrance length of 1600 metres from which they will take samples to carry out geological studies of the surroundings.

This artwork by César Manrique gives the sensation of entering inside Mother Earth, leaving unique and unforgettable sensations for all those who visit the cave. The curious thing about this cave lies in its natural origin as a result of lava (eruptions of La Corona volcano), where you can appreciate the power of nature that has created galleries that reach 50 meters high where magma flowed from the interior of the Earth. The galleries of this tunnel were used by the ancient inhabitants of the island to protect themselves from slave hunters and pirates in the 17th century

We recommend that, during your visit to Cueva de los Verdes, you stay close to the guide so that you can listen to all the interesting information about this place, as well as its characteristics, singularities and secrets. However, do not keep them awake for other visitors to come to the Cave in search of knowledge!
